Origins & Development
REMOA was established as a national network for researchers and microscopy facilities working in advanced optical microscopy and digital imaging. Since its beginnings, the network has grown to connect institutions, research groups and technical specialists from different scientific disciplines, bringing together complementary expertise in microscopy and imaging.
REMOA was formally established as a scientific society following its approval at the 3rd REMOA Meeting, held in Bilbao from 14-16 October 2016. In September 2017, REMOA was registered in the Spanish National Registry of Associations (Registro Nacional de Asociaciones) under the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
Since then, the network has continued to grow, expanding its community and developing new activities and resources to support its members.
REMOA Microscopy & Imaging Portal
A key resource of the network is the REMOA Microscopy & Imaging Portal, which brings together information provided by member laboratories and facilities about their expertise, equipment, technologies and training opportunities. By making these capabilities visible through a shared platform, the portal helps researchers discover relevant resources and expertise across the REMOA community.
Governance & Management
REMOA is coordinated through a Management Committee, which oversees the activities and development of the network and supports collaboration among its member institutions.
The Management Committee is responsible for coordinating the network’s activities, supporting the organisation of meetings and initiatives, and ensuring the continued development of REMOA and its shared resources. Its members contribute their expertise and represent different institutions and areas of advanced optical microscopy within the network.
The Committee works together with Working Groups and REMOA members to promote the network’s objectives and respond to the needs of its community.

Working Groups
REMOA Working Groups bring together members of the network around specific areas of activity and development. They provide a flexible framework for members to contribute their expertise, coordinate initiatives and work together on actions that support the growth of the network.
Each group focuses on a defined area, while working collaboratively with the Management Committee and the wider REMOA community.
Working Groups are formed by REMOA members who voluntarily contribute their time, expertise and experience to support the network’s activities.

Current Working Groups

Communication & Social Media
Promotes REMOA activities and achievements through social media and other communication channels, helping to increase the visibility of the network and its community.

Website & REMOA Microscopy & Imaging Portal
Supports the development and maintenance of the REMOA website and REMOA Microscopy & Imaging Portal, improving how information and resources are organised, presented and shared across the network.

Training
Coordinates and promotes training activities, courses and workshops within REMOA, identifying training needs and encouraging the exchange of knowledge and expertise.

Technology
Focuses on the technological capabilities of the network, supporting the identification, organisation and dissemination of advanced microscopy technologies and expertise available within REMOA.

Funding & Sponsorship
Identifies and develops diverse funding opportunities to support REMOA’s activities and long-term development, including grants, institutional support, sponsorships and partnerships with industry and other external organisations.
06
Industry Engagement
Builds and strengthens relationships between REMOA and companies working in microscopy, imaging and related technologies, promoting knowledge exchange, technology transfer and opportunities for collaboration.
